Murals Covered a 100-Year-Old Church in Spain & Transformed Into Skate Park

Okuda San Miguel is a Madrid-based artist whose work can be classified as pop surrealism with a clear essence of street art or urban art. Okuda began his career as a street artist by painting in old factories and lost railways in 1996.

Originally designed by Asturian architect Manuel del Busto in 1912, the church of Santa Barbara in Llanera, Asturias, was abandoned for years and crumbling from neglect.  ‘Church Brigade,’ with help from online fundraising and Red Bull, the church was salvaged and turned into a public skate park dubbed Kaos Temple.

Okuda has painted a prismatic mural on the ceiling depicting various animals, mythological figures, and motifs found throughout the natural world.
