Charis Tsevis is an amazing artist, who creates the most interesting African portrait murals using digitally-painted, mosaic bricks. These amazing and colorful blocks are comprised of various African patterns with references to rich African culture. At first it seems that all the patterns would render an image flat or make it appear discombobulating but the portraits have amazing depth and come alive with color.
Tsevis passionately describes Africa as “a constant source of inspiration, and a solid point of reference for my life” — so he set to work creating something bold and complex to capture the historic and multifaceted African culture. Source [Behance]
Each picture in the series is a multi-layered composition of African influence, a mosaic of individual bricks that feature traditional prints, textures and patterns as well as colors and subjects.
