335 Year Old Painting Restored at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 10 months

Everhard Jabach and His Family was painted by Charles Le Brun and finished in 1660. The portrait was covered in a badly tinted varnish, had multiple superficial scratches and structural damage had split the painting nearly in half.  it took a period of over ten months to retouching, structural work, re-varnishing, and numerous other conservation techniques to bring this giant painting back to life.

The restoration at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was lead by Michael Gallagher.
